I once led a Leadership Development discussion group with a group of university presidents. As we discussed passion and commitment, a consensus emerged that society has robbed many people of their pride-of-craft. This group of leading academics concluded that universities have been major contributors to the problem. They have helped build a job class system that puts many white-collar professionals well ahead of blue-collar trades people and technicians. But we all agreed that a highly skilled mechanic who loves his or her work and is continually growing and developing in it is a much stronger and productive leader than a doctor who feels trapped in a system he or she despises.Unfortunately a large percentage of these investments of time, money and effort in these courses, books and programs are wasted. Books don't get opened, tele-seminars aren't attended, workshops are forgotten and much more. It isn't really the fault of the author, Instructional Design or trainer for these problems. While there are things that these people can do to improve the results gained from their products, in the end it isn't their responsibility.These are just a few of many on-line job search engines. If you are in the field of technology whether it is IT, Instructional Design, Contented Development or any on-line activity the following job sites are very helpful and effective.Recession Slayer #3: Get Some Friends: Recession hits all business and those in your area, industry and outside are looking for help too. Now is a very good time to develop mutually beneficial partnerships. In simple terms you offer your products/services to another companies' customers and they do the same in return.One might argue that if Instructional Design encompasses all aspects of creating eLearning materials, then it begins to phase out the need for professional IDs because any subject matter who knows the design tools can develop eLearning. I disagree. Just because someone knows how to use the tools doesn't mean he or she knows how to write instructionally. In fact, I believe the more an ID can branch out, the more marketable and necessary we become.
